The Story of the Lost Colors: Introduction to the Color Realms

A Short Tale

Once, there was a soft, round creature with ears so floppy they brushed the ground when he waddled. His name is Benedict, as fluffy as a cloud and was always a jumble of colors—splashes and swirls that shifted with his moods. Some days he was streaked with fiery reds and oranges, other days he shimmered with blues and greens, and sometimes, he carried the whole rainbow like a moving mosaic.

But one morning, he awoke to find himself bare. No stripes, no swirls, no gentle glow of shifting hues. Just pale fur, blank and humdrum. He pulled his ears over his face, feeling small and embarrassed. “What am I without my colors?” he whispered. His chest ached like something important had slipped away in the night. So he began to search.

The first spark he found was Red. It pulsed like a heartbeat in the soil, steady and brave. When he touched it, warmth rushed through him, and a streak of red reappeared on his fur. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to give him the courage to keep going.

Orange came next, dancing like laughter in the leaves. Then Yellow, glowing with gentle light. Green curled around him in vines of comfort, while Blue washed over him like a calming wave. Indigo hummed like a secret song, and Violet crowned him with a quiet spark of wonder.

By the time he had gathered them all, his body was once again alive with mismatched patterns—some smudged, some brilliant, some soft as whispers. He laughed, dipping his paws into the puddles of color he’d found, finger-painting joy across the world around him once again. And he realized: his colors had never truly left. They were waiting for him to remember where he had set them down.

What this Series Is About

This little tale is more than whimsy—it’s a doorway.

Color is not only something we see with our eyes. It is vibration, frequency, memory, and feeling. Each hue carries its own story, and when we allow ourselves to notice it, color becomes a teacher. Through the Color Realms series, I’ll guide you into each shade—through story, reflection, and creative practice—so you can rediscover the palette of your own inner world.

The Origins and Uses of Color

Color begins with light itself. When sunlight passes through a prism, it bends into a visible spectrum—red through violet. Our eyes catch these wavelengths with tiny receptors called cones, translating energy into vision. But not everyone perceives it the same way; some live without certain hues at all, teaching us that color can be felt, remembered, and imagined just as much as seen. Across cultures, color has carried meaning as long as stories have been told. Rainbows as bridges between worlds. Red as a mark of life-force, passion, or protection. White as purity in some traditions and mourning in others. Artists, healers, and seekers have long known what science confirms: color shapes mood, influences behavior, and even supports healing. It is woven into the fabric of our humanity.

A Glimpse of the Red Realm

Next, we’ll step into the Red Realm—where Benedict discovers a steady ember of courage: scientifically the longest-wavelength hue our eyes can see, culturally a sign of blood, protection, and passion, and spiritually the root that grounds us; you’ll read a short Red mini-scene here on the blog, and the full immersive recording with a printable companion page to work with red in your own practice is waiting inside The Nest. Think of this as our first step on the path—a reminder that every journey begins with a heartbeat.
