Birthday Reflection & Gratitude
Another Year Softer: A Birthday Reflection
Make it stand out
Today is my 49th birthday.
Instead of making a wish or setting goals, I’m pausing to reflect on what this past year has taught me, especially about creativity, care, and learning to listen to my nervous system.
For a long time, I believed creativity had to be productive to matter. That rest had to be earned. That softness came after effort.
This year reminded me that none of that is true.
Creativity has carried me through moments when words didn’t help. When thinking made things louder instead of clearer. When my body needed something steady, tangible, and kind.
That understanding is what shaped Rooted Ravens.
This space wasn’t created to fix anyone or push transformation. It exists because creativity can be a way to regulate, to ground, and to reconnect, especially for people who feel deeply in a world that moves quickly.
I’m deeply grateful for everyone who reads quietly, creates alongside me, shares reflections, or simply pauses here for a moment of calm. Your presence matters more than you know.
Another year older doesn’t feel like a finish line. It feels like an expansion, more trust in slowness, more permission to tend instead of strive, and more appreciation for the small rituals that hold us together.
Today, I’m choosing gratitude over expectation.
Thank you for being part of this space, in whatever way you are.
From the roots to the ravens, and back to your own light.
~ Sandy
